Church and the Importance of Fellowship

The importance of the Church in the Christian faith is a foundational statute God used to establish His people. Throughout the bible, one may see the prominence of the Church in the lives of God’s people (in the old and new testament.) In 1 Kings, King Solomon is given the lofty task to oversee the building of the First Temple; A task originally given to his father, David. In this temple, many tasks are distributed to the people of Israel to perpetuate its growth. There are musicians, Priests, and much more, that are all established for the glory of God. This is the key to reaching the true definition of the church. A place where followers of Christ come together in one body, to fellowship and grow in the name of the Lord. The church was never meant to be a place of merchandise or pride (sadly some churches exemplify these qualities). Instead, the church was to be a place of worship. A place of reverence to the Lord. The church was to be a place of dancing and singing, as individuals would testify the goodness and mercies of God through these actions. With respect to this information, 1 Corinthians 12:27 states, “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” What this verse expresses is that being Christian means being part of the body of Christ. Because of this initiation, there can be no such thing as an independent body part, as this would cause the whole body to become dysfunctional. With this, one must understand that fellowship through the church or youth groups is not just a gathering. It is a way to work together as the body of Christ, to sharpen each other as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 37:17). Therefore, the importance of the church and fellowship, deeply tie into each other. The church is a great place to get to know more about God and grow one’s faith, as fellowship is a way to capitalize on such growth, with the purpose of growing one another!
