Power of the Tongue: A Flame of Fire (pt. 2)

Updated: Aug 25, 2022

In part one of this blog, we discussed how some words that you speak can have a negative effect. But of course we cannot talk about the negative tongue without talking about the positive tongue. One of the reasons God places emphasis on the words you speak is because they can determine a certain outcome of the future.

God was confronted with darkness and He said “Let there be light” and there was light (Genesis 1:3). If we do not learn to speak to our personal darkness, it will not go away. There is absolutely no quietness in the fruit of the Spirit. One of the things the Spirit feeds off of, is prayer — a source of communication. Every destiny is at the mercy of the tongue. The words that come out of or escape your mouth can determine how successfully you live. If you say you cannot do something, you won’t be able to do it. If you say you can do it, you will be able to do it.

Hebrews 11:3 says, “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Something we must remember is that we have the Holy Spirit within us. It is not the Spirit of somebody that God made, but it is the Spirit of God. That Spirit gives power. When you speak something into existence and it is backed by the Spirit of God, you can form what you see by the WORD of God. The Bible is called the word of God, because it was spoken by Him. The only way the word becomes powerful and comes to pass is when you speak the word. If you don’t speak the word, nothing happens.

In Luke 11:2, Jesus said to His disciples “When you pray, say…” Jesus did not say that when you pray you should think of the prayer, but you should say it because sometimes our ears need to hear the words that come out of our own mouths. A closed mouth is a closed destiny. The Bible says that death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Choose life. Speak life. Speak power. Speak the word of God. For when you change what you say, you change what you see. Amen.
