Salvation, a Gift From God

Updated: Oct 12, 2021

“Am I going to Heaven when I die?” This is the question we typically ask ourselves when posed with the question of whether or not we are saved. To be saved means to have salvation, so what does it mean to have salvation? To have salvation means to have been given and to have accepted the gift that has delivered or saved your soul from sin and what it leads to, such as eternal suffering or even some hardships in life. As stated before, salvation is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith一 and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Gifts are given, usually free of charge and once they have been given, are not to be taken back. God being the merciful and loving Creator He is, has given all human beings access to this gift. We cannot do anything to earn our salvation, it is given by God and we cannot even influence His decision to give us this gift. So, here is a question: have you accepted this gift? You’ll know that you have accepted God’s gift of salvation if you have accepted Him as your Lord and personal Savior, with your mouth and heart; it is something that should be confessed. You should believe without a doubt that Jesus Chirst, the Son, died for your sins and so that you may gain a new life in Him. This faith that you have should solidify your belief in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Romans 10: 9-10 tells us that “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” So, once you have affirmed your faith and belief in Christ, you are now saved. However, here comes another question: can I lose my salvation? If not, what do I do to keep living in my salvation? There is nothing we as human beings can do to lose our salvation, but there is a certain criteria we must follow that will become our lifestyle. We need to commit ourselves fully to God, and that includes ridding ourselves of the things that God hates and does not approve of; because after all, when we are saved we become new beings. We are to live lives in obedience to God and keep the faith, that is how you can maintain your salvation, the gift of God.
