Trusting God's Timing

Updated: Apr 17, 2023

Trust, it’s a very hard thing for some. I would know - I struggle to trust most, because of past disappointments and my own premonitions. But trusting in timing that you can’t control… trusting that God will do something and that you just have to let it happen when it happens; and furthermore believing that it will work for your good? Now that’s a real challenge. But as hard as it is to come to terms with this idea, it is something that is required of us Christians. We have no choice but to trust God’s timing, because as it says in scripture:

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. The rain and snow come down from heaven and do not return there without giving water to the earth. This makes plants grow on the earth, and gives seeds to the planter and bread to the eater. So My Word which goes from My mouth will not return to Me empty. It will do what I want it to do, and will carry out My plan well.”

~ Isaiah 55:9-11

One of the biggest components of trust is that we don’t always have to understand the reasoning behind certain actions, we just need to trust that the person in which we put our trust has it right. Just like with our parents, they may discipline us in a way we don’t understand, and may not like, but later on we come to realize that it was beneficial to us and was actually meant for our good. This same thing applies to God and His will for us. We may not understand why certain things happen and why it seems like we aren’t having what we prayed for, but that is just further proof that God knows best. God wants the best for his children, and sometimes that means saying no to our requests, or maybe just delaying them for a season. That is what we must understand, especially as youth: not everything will be done at the moment we desire it, especially if we are not ready. God may be withholding a certain blessing because He sees that you lack the preparation in certain areas; you may think you can handle it — but the One who created you and knows you better than you know yourself, sees that He needs to allow you to mature a little more.

Trusting God and His timing is not easy, that is guaranteed, but it is necessary. God knew the world before the world came to know itself. He knows that you are meant for greatness and that you can do great things, but even better… He knows exactly when to open those doors for you, just wait on Him.
